Our raison d'etre is: to alert Americans to the dangers of some crucial problems, provide understanding of their fundamental causes, demonstrate that they can be corrected, and indicate pathways to solutions. We recognize that this is a daunting task, but other citizens and organizations are also rising to the occasion; a grass-roots dialogue is appropriate.
“…Benjamin Franklin, who, on leaving the constitutional convention of 1787, supposedly told a curious passerby that the Framers had produced “a republic, if you can keep it.” - Adam J. White, From The Atlantic.
National constitutions have lasted an average of only 17 years since 1789. Our republic’s has lasted over 230 years. However, it is no secret that a huge percentage of the populace is increasingly worried that we have lost the ability and fortitude to formulate and implement solutions to serious problems. A symptom of this is Gridlock, but attacking a symptom is futile without digging down to the root cause(s).
We have chosen two areas of Gridlock to study, analyze, rationalize, and indicate needed pivotal changes. Both are huge, complex, and full of arguments in every direction. But, both also have dire implications if we continue to leave them unsolved.
Global Warming is one of the areas with tension and lack of adequate progress to ensure a successful effort. The facts show real weakness in reducing greenhouse gas emissions despite spending large amounts and creating polarization. This applies not only to America, but to the world. New approaches are required.
Dysfunctional Congress is the other area. There are some reasons why our electoral systems have fallen behind those of other major democracies; pivotal changes are needed, and the understanding and push for them should come from citizens.
We would love to have you be a volunteer and/or make a financial contribution in this effort. You can do either through our website at www.solveamericangridlock.com.
